We’ve seen what the Grammy’s had to offer, but now let’s take a look at some of the knock out dresses from this year’s Oscars. You can recreate these looks on a budget, you just need to know where to shop!
Anna Kendrick, star of this year’s movie and musical Into the Woods took over the red carpet in this soft coral Thakoon Panichgul gown. It’s bandage top and keyhole cut gives the gown a elegant yet sexy look. The B Darlin Embellished Open-Back Gown at Macy’s (left) has a incredibly similar look with it’s coral color, flowing bottom and halter style with jeweled collar.
Though a more pleated mint halter, the City Studios Rhinestone-Trim Halter Gown at Macy’s (right) is a gorgeous daytime alternative. Similarly to Kendrick’s dress, it has a keyhole cut with a halter style with jeweled collar and embellishment around the waist- giving a slimming look.
Nominated for her role as supporting actress in Into the Woods is legend Meryl Streep. Streep kept it simple with a long black skirt with a knee length slit and a touched top from Lanvin. Looking classy and graceful, as always Streep rocked this simple style with a tuxedo-esque blazer. This color block look is easy (and cheaper) to imitate with a classic color block one piece.
Cocktail classy, La Femme’s Strapless Cutout Colorblock Jersey Gown at Nordstrom (left) has a mid thigh slit with a sweetheart neckline. If you’re looking for something a little more professional, try Calvin Klein’s Wide-Leg Colorblock Belted Jumpsuit at Macy’s (right). This v-neck jumpsuit has a high waist with a cute accent belt. Pair either outfit with the Silence + Noise tuxedo blazer at Urban Outfitters to get the full Streep look.
Gina Rodriguez is the star of CW show “Jane the Virgin” and recent Golden Globe winner for Best Actress. Rodriguez wore this pure silk eco-friendly dress- designed by fashion students in Paris.
Both sleeveless and high neck, Rodriguez’s gown and the Alex Evenings Sleeveless Bead-Trim Draped Gown at Macy’s radiate power and sophistication. For a more trim and fancy look, try the Alex Evenings Sleeveless Jewel Halter Gown, also available at Macy’s.
Talk show host, Kelly Ripa, sure made a statement with this dress! This black embossed jacquard ballgown stayed shining throughout the whole ceremony. This black gown is a bit overpowering, which is why I chose Jump Glittered Ball Gown at Macy’s (left) as a more subtle alternative. This gown has a slight sweetheart neckline with a pleated bodice and glitter from head to toe, move over Kelly Ripa!
And what do we see to our right? Shying away from the red carpet we see the MyMichelle Strapless Glitter Gown at JCPenney with an beaded waistline and of course, the sweetheart neckline.
Blonde beauty Reese Witherspoon was nominated for Best Actress for her newest movie “Wild.”It’s hard to replicate the simplistic beauty of Witherspoon’s Oscar dress made by Tom Ford, but I sure did try! The Speechless Glittered Off-The-Shoulder Gown at Macy’s (right) includes elements of Witherspoon’s gown such as the white color, thick off shoulder straps, and emphasized waistline- not to mention the snug fitting around the waist and hips.
Embodying the simplicity of the celeb dress, the Badgley Mischka Off-the-Shoulder Gown at Bloomingdale’s has a similar off shoulder look, almost identical fitting and train. Not to mention, they both look insanely comfortable!
We’ll end this post with a stunner. Looking like a classic Hollywood starlet, “Gone Girl” actress Rosamund Pike was the best dressed woman at the Oscars this year. Wearing Givenchy Haute Couture, Pike’s gown was a beautiful combination of satin and lace.
I found Xscape’s Strapless Embellished Cutout Gown at Macy’s (left) to be 100% red carpet worthy. All eyes will be on you while wearing this sexy gown, with a true sweetheart neckline and a mid thigh slit.
Though more modest than the strapless gowns, is the City Studios Lace Illusion Gown at Macy’s (right). I love this gown because It really captures the essence of Pike’s gown, just without the satin finish. This shade of red is a flattering and timeless color for most women.
Moral of the post: you don’t need designer outfits to look like a celebrity. You just need to learn how to dress up (or down) with confidence!
